Suspect involved in bizarre chase appears in court

HOUSTON

The chase ended Sunday on the Gulf Freeway near Monroe. Police say Andres Martinez, 24, led them on a 15-minute chase, but he never went over 40 miles per hour.

The front of his car was smashed in and officers believed he might have been involved in a hit and run, but Martinez refused to stop. Officers pursued him through downtown Houston for 15 minutes while he weaved in and out of traffic.

At one point, police say he attempted to hit a squad car before he finally stopped at the Monroe exit. Our Transtar JamCam caught the moment Martinez surrendered.

Martinez faces several charges, including attempted intoxication assault against a public servant.
