Man discovers pot growing operation on his land in Liberty County

LIBERTY COUNTY, TX

A Liberty County land owner was showing his acreage for sale to a prospective buyer and found the gate lock had been cut. He told authorities he heard someone running through the woods and called 911. Sheriff's deputies found the making of a marijuana grow operation on the edge of the land.

Authorities are now saying property owners should pay more attention to their land in rural areas.

"That is what we are wanting to let everyone know, to check their land, check their locks, check your gates. Again, if you see anything suspicious at all to please contact us and let us take a look," said Captain Rex Evans with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

The land owner didn't want to be identified.

Authorities say although what was found were just a few seedlings, they could grow to about seven feet in about six months and be worth many thousands of dollars.
