Woman struck, killed by tow truck in SW Houston

HOUSTON

It happened on Bellaire and Pella, an area close to a couple of private schools. The accident shut down that intersection for about an hour during rush hour.

The elderly woman was walking westbound on the sidewalk just after 3pm when a gray tow truck coming out of a strip shopping center, hit her and dragged her down the driveway.

Some in the neighborhood say they aren't surprised by what happened.

Strake Jesuit next door was letting out for the day, and parents and students saw the deadly accident. We're told they screamed at the tow truck driver to stop, and that he may not have realized at first that he had hit someone.

People who live in the area say tow truck drivers are a problem.

"They drive up and down Bellaire like it's going out of style, 80-90 miles an hour, going around people, like there's no respect, you know? And I've called to complain about it," neighbor Donald Borland said.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The tow truck driver was taken in for questioning.

Houston police say they are asking witnesses to the accident to get in touch with them.
