Wearing masks and carrying guns, home invaders have struck Houston area homes at least four times in the past two weeks, most recently on Thanksgiving evening.

Authorities said they have seen an increase of home invasions recently, though statistics were not available because of the holiday. The recent attacks have left three dead and a boy missing his finger.

On Nov. 17, a gunman shot off the finger of the boy, about 7 years old, while attacking a home.

Investigators have provided few details about the recent attacks. Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva told The Associated Press on Saturday that they are not believed to be related.

Home invaders, who sometimes act on tips, try to intimidate residents into handing over drugs or cash.
