It happened on Noble near Mary Street just before 6pm on Thursday. Police say the victim was shot to death multiple times and found lying in the front yard of the home covered in a sheet.
Authorities identified the suspect as Matthew Hollowell Layton, 26. He faces a charge of murder in the shooting death of a 39-year-old female, whose identity is pending notification to family members.
P> Layton and the victim got into an argument, which escalated when Layton pulled a gun and shot the woman multiple times.Witnesses stated Layton fled the scene and went to a location where he admitted to family members that he shot the woman.
"The witnesses say a person was seen walking away from the scene," said Ivan Ulloa with the HPD Homicide Division. "He later returned. He was detained for question and he is being questioned as to what involvement he has in this case."
Police say the man admitted he had shot her to a family member last night. The family member returned to the scene with him where he was detained.
Charges are pending against Layton.
