The owner of a store in east Harris County was wounded in a shootout with a man who tried to rob him Saturday, police said.

It happened Saturday afternoon at B?M Blades in the 1500 block of Mercury Dr. in Jacinto City.

Officials said an armed man walked into the business and demanded money.

The 61-year-old store owner was shot in the abdomen, but he managed to retrieve his weapon and fire four rounds back at the suspect.

The store owner was rushed to an area hospital where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound. He is expected to survive, police said.

The suspect fled the scene. Surveillance cameras at a nearby gas station caught the man on video.

Police said the suspect is described only as a black man. He was driving a dark-colored Chevrolet Suburban. Officials believe the Suburban may have been struck by one of the store owner's bullets.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call the Jacinto City Police Department at 713-672-2455 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
