Fight between men leads to fatal shooting

HOUSTON

According to witnesses, two unknown males in a white Ford van pulled into a convenience store parking lot in the 8300 block of Park Place Drive about 8:40pm with car trouble. Both men then walked into the store, purchased beer and walked behind the store to drink. A few minutes later, several gunshots were heard coming from the area where the men were drinking. A store employee ran out to see what happened and saw one male on the ground and another unknown individual armed with a gun, jumping over a fence next to the body. The van was left at the scene.

The male victim was shot three to four times in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

"There are some neighbors behind this area where the convenience store is that saw suspect matching his description jumping the fences, running through their yards, carrying a weapon," said Sgt. Robert Torres with the Houston Police Department.

Police got in touch with the owner of the company van who gave them the information of the worker the van was dispatched to.

Investigators say they are attempting to locate and question a male named Tony Alvarez as a possible person of interest in this case.

Anyone with information in this incident is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
