Lady Bird Lake boardwalk project sees delays

AUSTIN, TX City officials, before bonds were approved by voters in November, initially said the largest piece of the Lady Bird Lake boardwalk could see construction by January.

The Austin American-Statesman reports, for its Monday editions, that city officials have run into delays negotiating easements.

Public works spokeswoman Sara Hartley says a concrete bridge over the water, with small sections on land, won't be up for bids until this summer. Hartley says construction could start by the end of 2011.

Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, on election night, amended the projected start date to March for the bidding process. Leffingwell said last week that he thinks the project should move faster.
