TxDOT prepares for possible freezing conditions

HOUSTON With reports of precipitation on Tuesday and freezing temperatures occurring first in Montgomery County late Tuesday evening, TxDOT is taking precautionary measures by spraying a magnesium chloride anti-icing solution on those overpasses and bridges in Montgomery C ounty that have a history of icing. These include:

  • SH 105 West from Loop 336 to Grimes County Line
  • FM 1097 from FM 149 east to SH 75
  • IH 45 North Woodlands Flyover
  • SH 242 at San Jacinto River

The spraying operation in Montgomery County began at 2pm today and will last until approximately 6pm. Motorists are advised to use caution when driving around the working operation.

Maintenance sections in all of the six-county maintenance offices are preparing for possible freezing conditions by loading trucks with an aggregate mixture that will be placed on any reported areas of icy conditions overnight Tuesday and Wednesday morning. In addition, TxDOT crews will be out during that timeframe checking the roadways for any icy conditions, and will be able to dispatch on call crews to respond accordingly.
