Police have released the identity of an southeast Texas man killed after a car chase in Beaumont. Beaumont police on Thursday said 48-year-old James Everette Treadwell of Jasper died Wednesday after crashing his vehicle into a pickup truck at a stop sign and striking a utility pole following a car chase.

Patrol officers had tried to stop Treadwell after receiving a call about a man matching his description sitting in a parking lot with a firearm, ammunition and alcohol. When police arrived, Treadwell allegedly sped off, eventually losing control of his car at an intersection.

Officers recovered a firearm, ammunition, and alcohol at the scene.
