Officer trapped following high speed wreck

The accident involving an off-duty officer occurred around 10:30am on Red Bluff near Underwood in Pasadena. The officer was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed on his way to a police training class when he rear-ended an 18-wheeler.

The officer was pinned inside the cruiser when it caught fire briefly, but rescue crews were able to extinguish the flames and extract him. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital by Life Flight. His condition is unknown at this time, but it is believed he may have suffered some broken bones.

The officer has been on the force for about four to five years. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
