Police: Girl run over by mom's boyfriend

It happened at a home on Leora near Shaver in Pasadena. That little girl, Samira Mendoza, died Monday afternoon, The boyfriend was arrested.

Merzed Mendoza is still in shock after his daughter was run over.

"I heard the wheel in the street," he said. "The shirt has blood and everything."

Mendoza has yet to wash the dry blood from Samira off his face. Police say Luis Aguilar Aguilar, who is romantically linked to Mendoza's wife, ran over the little girl.

"I walked to the car and when he saw me walking to the car, he took off," said Mendoza.

Mendoza spent the weekend with his daughter. Sunday night, police say Samira's mother and Nunez came to pick up the little girl. Moments later, Samira was critically injured. Police say Aguilar sped away because he may have been in fear for his life.

"Why was he scared of you?" we asked Mendoza.

"He thought I was going to do something to him because we're still married and she moved in with him," he said.

Mendoza says he didn't realize his only daughter had followed him out of the house until after she was hit.

"I didn't see her," he said. "Otherwise, I'd stop her."

Investigators say at first they don't believe Nunez even knew he hit the child. It took them two and a half hours to find him and he wasn't at home. He was charged with failure to stop and render aid. Those charges could be upgraded.
