Ike evacuee found dead in shelter

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a man found at 1003 Avenida de Las Americas about 8:40am Friday.

The victim, 26, who showed no signs of injury, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

The victim, who is registered as a Hurricane Ike evacuee, went to sleep in his cot at the George R. Brown Convention Center around 10pm Thursday and was found deceased this morning. Further investigation determined he had a previous medical condition. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
