South Padre Island reopens to public

July 29, 2008 11:26:39 AM PDT
Police have reopened the bridge linking South Padre Island to the mainland to all traffic. The Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge had been limited to residents of the island or people with business there to limit the number of people seeking a peek at Hurricane Dolly's destruction.

The island had also been completely without power, but about 40 percent of island customers have regained electricity.

A 9 p.m. curfew on the island will remain in effect while power crews work to restore electricity to the rest of the island.
