Astros pitchers, catchers work out

KISSIMMEE, FL Pitchers who worked out Thursday included ace Roy Oswalt; Doug Brocail; Wandy Rodriguez; and Oscar Villarreal. Overall, 14 pitchers threw off the mound.

"I'm pretty excited," Astros manager Cecil Cooper said. "It is good to see the guys, see them throwing and running. Now I'm ready for next week to see the position players. Overall, everything went smooth. Today, we got to come out here and work the kinks out so we can come out here (Friday) and really get to work."

"The best thing is that we have depth," Cooper said of his pitching staff. "We have guys that we can count on and guys that have been around. Roy is going to be our guy at the top and after that we have guys like Woody (Williams) and (Brandon) Backe that have been around; Wandy also has a lot of innings under his belt.

"Our bullpen is very deep. I'm excited to get some of the guys into game situations so that they can begin to compete for their spots," Cooper said.
