Cop faces intoxication manslaughter charge

GALVESTON, TX Galveston County District Attorney Kurt Sistrunk says Officer John White is expected to surrender today to the Sheriff's Office.

Police say White had a blood alcohol content of 0.17 when his pickup truck struck a parked car on the shoulder of a farm-to-market road on January 18th.

The driver of the parked car, 26-year-old Leticia Ortiz of La Marque, died in the crash.

White was off-duty when the accident occurred. Sistrunk tells the Houston Chronicle that White will be placed on administrative leave.

White's attorney could not be reached for comment.

A grand jury is scheduled to consider the case on February 5th.
