She ended up with a severe gash on her hand and had to be taken to the hospital. Her son barricaded himself in his room, but eventually surrendered to police.
He is going to be admitted to a mental hospital and will not face criminal charges.

HOUSTON (KTRK) It happened last night on Glen Valley and Glenalta in southeast Houston. The mother found her son cutting himself \at their home. Police say she tried to take the knife away and they struggled over it.
