ALPINE, Texas -- Snow and ice covered parts of West Texas on Wednesday as a winter storm hit parts of the state.

Video on Twitter shows what's called hoarfrost or frozen fog along Highway 90 in Alpine.

According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, the frozen fog is formed by direct condensation of water vapour to ice at temperatures below freezing and occurs when air is brought to its frost point by cooling.

Winter storm warnings were issued across west-central Texas.
