Could still see overnight rain showers, but start drying out Thursday
Francince has made landfall in Louisiana but we could still see some showers from wrapped around the storm.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We saw rounds of scattered showers through the day Wednesday from Francine. Francine is now moving north into northeastern Louisiana and into Mississippi. As Francine moves north, our rain chances decrease. We could still see some leftover rain into Thursday morning but most of us will stay dry. We also could see some patchy fog heading into Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon, we should see partly cloudy skies and very low rain chances.

Francine officially made landfall at 5 pm Wednesday in southern Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds.

What do we expect now that Francine has moved inland?

We should continue to dry out through the day Thursday and we should be looking at mostly sunny skies and much warmer temperatures heading into Friday.

What does the weekend forecast look like?

Summery, that's for sure! A calm and warm weather system will come in after Francine and bring above normal temperatures to much of the region. High temperatures each day this weekend will be in the low-mid 90s under a mostly sunny sky. Morning lows will even be in the low-mid 70s,so it'll be a tad humid too. The weather is great though each day with two big games in Houston on both Saturday and Sunday. Just remember, if you're tailgating drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen.

Do you expect those summertime temperatures to continue?

At this point, yes. High temperatures should remain at or above 90 degrees all the way into next week. Thankfully, no 100-degree days are in the forecast and that looks highly unlikely at this time. We can rule out a heat index though at times that might make it feel like the triple digits.

What else are you tracking in the tropics?

There are several tropical waves we are monitoring in the Atlantic. None of which have any immediate threat to the Gulf at this point. Head to our daily Tropical Update page for the latest on what's happening in the tropics.
