Hope Solo may skip Olympics in Brazil due to Zika virus

NEW YORK -- Soccer superstar Hope Solo claims she may skip the Olympics in Brazil over fears of the Zika virus.

The U.S. goalkeeper told SI.com that she wants to have children some day and she doesn't want to risk contracting the virus.

The virus is suspected of causing severe birth defects.

Health officials say getting the virus will not impact future pregnancies.

The risk is among women who get the infection while they're already pregnant.
