CHANNELVIEW, TX (KTRK) -- Channelview junior quarterback Jalen Hurts is putting up some big numbers this season -- 14 TD passes so far and another 17 on the ground.
Jalen and the Falcons are 6- 1 so far and making history every week.
Channelview head coach Averion Hurts, Jalen's dad, says Jalen has matured a lot since last year. Going into his junior year, Jalen set a lot of goals and expectations for himself. He's worked really hard and so has the rest of the team and its showing on the field.
Hurts threw for 217 yards in Channelview's first ever win over North Shore last Friday. The last 36 yards with no time remaining earned the Falcons a spectacular 49-48 victory.
Jalen thought when the play was called, it was now or never.
Coach Hurts had a feeling something good was going to happen. Jalen rolled to his right to give his receivers a chance on the game's final play. He threw it up and Bryant Valentine came down with it in the end zone.
"I'm in shock. Wow," said Jalen. "We just beat North Shore for the first time in history."
