BELLAIRE, Texas (KTRK) -- HISD begins its school year Monday and for the first time, one of its high schools will have a service dog used by a student.
Rachel Contello will be a senior at Bellaire High School and will bring along her Shepherd mix named Darwin.
Darwin is a rescue dog and actually only has three legs.
He is a psychiatric service dog and helps Contello when she has severe anxiety and panic attacks.
Darwin is trained to detect changes in Contello's body chemistry when she becomes anxious or at the onset of a seizure. Darwin uses relaxation tactics to help Contello calm down.
