HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Latino Catholics in Houston marked Lady of Guadalupe Day on Tuesday.
Parishioners filled Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for an evening service recognizing the 16th century vision of the Virgin Mary by Juan Diego.
According to legend, Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, appeared to the Mexican peasant in 1531.
Juan Diego was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
The saint's cloak also contains a purported image of the Virgin Mary. The cloak is on display at the Basilica of Guadalupe outside of Mexico City.
