Nail salon shooting worries neighbors
Friends and customers are praying for the victim's recovery

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Customers showed up Friday morning to closed doors, in utter disbelief, not realizing an employee at their favorite northwest Harris County nail salon has been shot.

Tanisha Butler works at the liquor store next door to Red Nails. She calls the victim "Mama."

"She's sweet, she's very sweet, she's friendly, she loves me. She always comes and knocks on the window and let me know she's leaving," Butler said.

Around 2:40pm Thursday, two armed men barged into the nail salon in the 13000 block of Veterans Memorial. They grabbed purses, cell phones and wallets. When they tried to grab more, a 65-year-old employee chased after one of the suspects. The other suspect ran behind her and shot her in the back.

Butler was working Thursday when she says the shooter and another man came right by her door. One of her customers saw the two men walk by.

"And he said the guys looked like they were up to no good, their pants were sagging or whatever, and the next thing I know, I hear 'pow' and I locked the door," she recalled.

For patrons of this shopping center, the entire situation frightens them. One shopper said, "That's really bad that the area has had so many problems lately."

Customers who stopped by Red Nails Friday say they are horrified by the news.

"It hurt my feelings," Glennessessi Cane said, "I'm getting teary-eyed right now. That's just crazy."

Other customers tell Eyewitness News this robbery will not keep them away from the salon.

"These ladies are too nice, they're too nice," Mie Owens said. "We actually want to go get more information on where she is, take her flowers or something to show support, let her know her customers are still here and we're gonna be here for when she comes back."

The shooting victim remains at Ben Taub Hospital.

As for the two suspects in this case, they are still on the run.

Suspect #1 was wearing a red hoodie, dark jeans, and black underwear. He was seen with a gun tucked in his underwear prior to entering the business.

Suspect #2 was wearing a gray hoodie, dark jeans and a 'beanie' cap on his head.

They were seen talking to two other suspects driving an older model white Dodge Durango just before the robbery.

Anyone with information about the suspects' identity and/or location is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for any information that leads to the filing of felony charges or arrest of wanted fugitives. All tipsters remain anonymous.
