ABC-13 anchor Melanie Lawson receives Lifetime Award from HCC

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Congratulations to our colleague, Eyewitness News anchor Melanie Lawson. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Houston Community College tonight.

William W. Harmon, the president of HCC's Central Campus, says Melanie was initially reluctant to step on stage because she didn't want to draw attention to herself.

"We had to go to her friends and relatives to get her to accept this achievement award," said Harmon. "That's the indication of the kind of person that she is. She's highly marketable in this area. Everyone knows her. And she makes a tremendous contribution to the city of Houston."

Melanie says she's honored and overwhelmed by the award. Tonight's event was the annual Black History Scholarship Gala to raise money for scholarships for minority students.
