Family: Man killed for money, cell phone on Houston's south side

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man was shot and killed while visiting his mother and sister on the city's south side.

Family members say 20-year-old Dedrick Coleman was having dinner at his mother's apartment on Wenda near Cullen around 10:30pm.

Police say he left to go to the store, and a short time later, witnesses heard a fight and then one gunshot.

Coleman died at the scene.

The victim's father, Derrick Coleman Sr., said, "It's getting too crazy out here on these streets. We're supposed to love one another and I just want whoever killed my son to be brought to justice."

Coleman's father says the suspects took money and a cell phone from his son.
