Sneak peek at new METRO rail lines
Two new METRORail lines are just a month away from opening

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two new METRORail lines are just a month away from opening. The 3.3 mile green line runs from downtown, east along Harrisburg. The 6.6 mile purple line travels southeast, connecting downtown to U of H, Texas Southern University, and continues to the Palm Center.

This is an exclusive sneak peek at up-close video of the trains, we aired first on ABC 13.

Both routes cross the Main Street Red Line, which runs 5.6 miles via the North/Red Line. The addition of these two light-rail lines brings Houston's light-rail system to nearly 23 miles. METRO hopes that the Light-rail expansion will help meet transportation needs by easing road traffic congestion and changing the way Houston moves.

The two new lines open on May 23, 2015.
