'Meet me at the Park' initiative could win your local park $20,000
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Who doesn't love a day at the park?
Celebrate with us during Earth Month! The National Recreation and Park Association and The Walt Disney Company, which includes ABC13, have collaborated for the Meet Me at the Park month-long campaign.
Houston is receiving $20K for a park project!
And you get to help pick which park will receive the prize money. Please vote throughout April for one of these parks. The park with the most votes at the end of the month will receive the $20,000 grant to implement a park improvement project this summer.
Here are the three parks up for the prize money:
Wagner Neighborhood Park
The community uses this undeveloped urban space for outdoor recreation and new amenities will help make the space a neighborhood park. Improvements will include tree plantings, seeding, benches, bird houses, interpretative signs and trash bins.
Woodland Park Nature Trail Restoration
After Hurricane Harvey flooded Houston, the nature trails at Woodland Park were negatively impacted by debris, fallen trees and erosion. Funds will help clear paths, repair erosion and restore habitat.
Dow Elementary Park Revitalization
Dow Elementary Park is preparing for a major makeover. Funds will be used to upgrade the basketball court which will offer safe, open play and training opportunities throughout the year.
