HOUSTON (KTRK) -- New surveillance video shows the melee that broke out at the southeast Houston sports bar and the aftermath of the DJ's shooting. HPD is searching for a suspect in the overnight shooting.
Houston police say this started as a fight between two groups of men at Joe's Place Sports Bar in the 100 block of E. Edgebrook.
There apparently was some sort of spat on the dance floor, with people pushing and shoving.
The DJ of the bar was involved in what police say was a brawl, but the fight ended without anyone getting hurt.
Police say as the suspect was leaving, he pulled out a gun and fired several times, hitting the DJ at least once.
Sgt. Thomas Simmons of HPD said, "A couple of people I've talked to say they attempted to comfort and come to his aid. It was a very dramatic scene inside. He was transported from here to Ben Taub (Hospital) where he died."
There are condolences coming in from several people on social media for the DJ who worked there, but police have not released the man's name.
We are told the suspect ran away after the shooting. He is described as a Hispanic man in his early 20's.
There were dozens of witnesses inside the bar who police were speaking with.
