HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Fire investigators are working to determine what started a fire at Champion Fiberglass near Grand Parkway and Spring Steubner in Spring early Sunday morning.
The two-alarm fire started around 5:30am
"A worker was on scene. He spotted the fire. After he spotted it, he evacuated all the workers from the building," said Chief Scott Seifert of the Spring Fire Department.
An employee tells us that there were about two dozen employees in the building at the time. Everyone made it out OK. Firefighters say that's especially good news because the fire spread quickly.
"There is some flammables inside and it caused a lot of fire," said Chief Seifert.
The company manufactures fiberglass and works with a number of chemicals that can become volatile, that created air quality concerns.
"We have the Harris County HazMat team involved and they've taken air samples and they've checked out the different chemicals that are on scene and I believe they've been advised so far there's no threat to the public at all," said Chief Seifert.
The owner of Champions Fiberglass was distraught. He told us he has owned the company for 28 years.
