Trump denies Rubio is on his VP shortlist
WASHINGTON (KTRK) -- Will Florida Sen. Marco Rubio become the Republican Party's nominee for vice president?
Not a chance, says presumptive nominee Donald Trump.
Trump took aim at the Washington Post this weekend after a report he was considering the once GOP rival for the presidential nomination.
The real estate mogul also says four other people suggested are not on his short list, including John Kasich, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin and Chris Christie.
Ben Carson is cited as a source for these rumors. The former GOP presidential candidate is part of Trump's search committee.
Meantime, Trump and campaign surrogates spent the weekend battling back against heavy talks about the presumptive nominee's colorful past.
Republican operatives say the media is inflating interest in an accusation that Trump posed as his own publicist years ago.
The New York Times also caught the attention of politicos this weekend after they published an article based on dozens of interviews claiming the former reality TV star insulted and objectified women.
The chairman of the Republican National Committee didn't flinch.
"We want to win in November and Donald Trump is someone who has been winning more votes in the primary than any Republican nominee in the history of our primaries," Reince Priebus says.
Trump, meanwhile, says the New York Times article is dishonest and "a hit piece," accusing the media of going on a witch hunt against him.
