CLAREMONT, CA -- A 16-year-old boy visiting from China vanished from his Claremont hotel, and there's growing concern about his whereabouts.
Jin Wuwei was reported missing on Friday by his mother, just two days after they arrived in the area to check out colleges.
Wuwei's mother said that her son insisted on visiting Claremont McKenna College by himself that day. Police say the teenager voluntarily walked away from his hotel room at the Claremont Lodge around 12:42 p.m. and has not been seen ever since.
According to surveillance images, Wuwei was carrying two bags when he left the hotel. Investigators say the teen had his cellphone and credit cards on him, but it doesn't appear that they have been used. His mother says he had about $500 cash on him.
The mother says her son was being very secretive in the days before his disappearance.
Wuwei was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded jacket and dark colored sweatpants with a white line along the seam. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and wears black rimmed eyeglasses. His mother says he is fluent in English.
