Onstar tracks stolen SUV, helps police nab car thieves

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Onstar system in a stolen SUV helped police catch a pair of car thieves.

Around 2am this morning, Onstar called HPD and told them about a stolen Yukon SUV they were tracking. Onstar said the vehicle had been stolen from Bellaire.

HPD started following the vehicle on Yale at East 10th Street and then tried to pull over the driver at the Katy Freeway near Studemont. The vehicle then took off at more than 100 mph down the Katy Freeway.

The driver exited the Northwest Freeway and then came to a stop on Antoine. A passenger in the SUV bailed out and was taken into custody by a Precinct 1 Constable.

The driver then turned onto Victory at Antoine at a car wash and stopped. Police then arrested him.

Both suspects have been turned over to the Bellaire Police Department for charges.
