The Bangladesh - American Center and the American Bangladeshi community, hosted a Prayer Vigil on Saturday, July 9, 2016 to commemorate victims who died in the July 1 bombings in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner attended the event and talked about Houston's diversity. He also called for a united front in the face of all terrorist acts.
U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee addressed the crowd, saying she has been to Bangladesh and expressed remorse over the recent violence in Bangladesh, Iraq and Turkey. Congressman Al Green also spoke about the #BlueLivesMatter movement and urged Houstonians to respect the serving officers.
The event was also attended by State Rep Gene Wu, City Controller Chris Brown, Former Sheriff Adrian Garcia, Shah M Haleem from Bangladesh-American Center and many others.
