The popular board game is celebrated each year on April 13th to honor of the birthday of its founder, Alfred Butts. The unemployed architect created the game in 1931 but it didn't catch on -- until the early 1950s.
Legend has it, the president of Macy's discovered the game while on vacation and ordered some for his store. Within a year, it became the game to have and was homes across the country Scrabble is now sold in 121 countries, in 29 different languages.
