At around 9am, the district says a Kruse elementary first-grade girl told her teacher a 7-year-old classmate was showing a gun he brought to school to other students.
The gun was taken by the teacher and given to the principal, then police were called. We're told it was a 9mm handgun. The safety was off and it was loaded.
Why the child brought the gun to school is still not clear.
"At this time in the investigation, I don't see a reason for him bringing a gun to school," said Renee Ivey with the Pasadena ISD. "He had it in his clothes, in his waistband."
Parents of children in that classroom were immediately notified of the incident. Letters were sent to all parents of children at the school.
The student was removed from the classroom and he won't be back for the rest of the semester.
