Richmond traffic stop leads to drug bust, suspect's arrest

RICHMOND, TX

Police say Rodrigo Ivan Garcia, 24, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over near the intersection of Collins Road and Goliad. As soon as the vehicle stopped, they say Garcia jumped out with a backpack and took off running.

Police caught up with Garcia in the back yard of a home on Goliad. The backpack was also discovered and investigators say inside it were multiple types of drugs. Garcia was also found to be in possession of a large amount of cash.

Garcia was arrested and charged with: two counts of manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance in a drug free zone, both of which are first degree felonies, possession of marijuana in a drug free zone, a third degree felony; and, evading arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

Garcia told the officers he ran because he had a warrant. He was transported to the Fort bend County Jail where he is currently waiting for bond to be set.

The driver and other passengers in the vehicle were all released.
