Body found after gunshots ring out near Greens Bayou

HOUSTON

Residents in the 700 block of Southbrook say they heard gunshots ring out around 7:20am and called the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

"It scared me real bad, real bad," resident Treassa Wren said. "And then it got quiet, and I heard two gunshots, and that scared me, and I ran down the hall."

When deputies arrived, they found the victim in a field between the residents' backyard and Greens Bayou.

"He appears to have suffered some type of trauma to the face and a possible gunshot wound," Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ben Beall said.

Witnesses told detectives two cars chased the man through the parking lot of a business, then into the field, eventually cornering him.

"Multiple suspects caught up with him. We do not have a good description of the suspects," Beall said. "They saw some people leaving, but they didn't have quite enough light out here to see well."

The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the victim's cause of death. He's been described only as a black man who appeared to be between 25 and 35 years old.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at 713.967.5810 or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
