Alejandra D. Gueldner was found brutally beaten and sexually assaulted in the 1200 block of Hardy Street northwest of downtown just before 5am on January 17. She died at a hospital five days later from her injuries.
According to police, Gueldner left work early that morning at the Hilton Americas at 1600 Lamar Street downtown. She was seen on surveillance video exiting the back door of the building, walking east on Polk Street and then turning north on Avenida De Las Americas.
She can then be seen on video walking north on Avenida De Las Americas, crossing in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center and then appearing to turn east onto Rusk Street.
She is not seen again.
Gueldner normally rode the METRO 50 Harrisburg line to her home near Broadway in southeast Houston. Family members believe the small-framed elderly either never made it to the bus stop at Texas Avenue and Hamilton Street or that she decided to walk home.
Employees found Gueldner clinging to life in front of their business in the 1200 block of Hardy and immediately called 911. She was taken to an area hospital with blunt force trauma, and they determined she had been beaten and sexually assaulted.
At about 4:30am -- not long before Gueldner was found -- a light-colored SUV is seen on video, driving by and briefly stopping. The driver did not contact police and it's unknown what connection, if any, that person may have with the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
