Houston couple saves historic homes from demolition, moves them down the street to be restored

HOUSTON

Six historic homes were loaded on to the back of trucks Saturday night and moved down Commerce Street.

We're told the houses were previously located near Garrow and St. Charles. They were slated to be demolished, but they were saved by a local resident.

Michael Skelly purchased the historic homes and had them moved about half a mile away to a new location, where they will be restored.

Skelly said he and his wife, Ann Whitlock, have been working on this project for months. They also bought Fire Station 2 on Sampson and Preston back in September.

He said they are refurbishing the fire station so they can live in it. The houses will be placed around the fire station. They have various friends prepared to buy the historic homes and lots from them.
