Teen killed in suspected DWI crash in southeast Houston

HOUSTON

Police say the teen was a passenger in a pickup truck when the driver lost control, hit a ditch and slammed into a tree and several mailboxes, ripping the truck apart.

The crash happened on Swiftwater near Randolph in southeast Houston.

The 17-year old died seconds after the crash. The male driver -- identified by police as 19-year-old Filiberto Vega -- was also injured and was hospitalized.

Investigators said Vega was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and he now faces an intoxication manslaughter charge.
