Deputies: Body found in northeast Harris County

HOUSTON

All afternoon and into the evening Saturday, neighbors passed by the yellow crime scene tape that sectioned off an entire block of Mohawk Street near Percy Road, wondering what exactly happened here.

"I came outside, and I'm like, 'what is going on?'" neighbor Maryann Garcia said.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, an anonymous tip caller told dispatchers that a man's body was buries beneath a chicken coop in the back yard of the home in the 5200 block of Mohawk.

Deputies went to the home around 12:30pm and focused their efforts behind the home, which they said was vacant.

By mid-afternoon, investigators called in members of Texas EquuSearch to help with the dig.

The rumors were confirmed by an HCSO spokesperson just before 10pm.

"The Harris County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene unit along with the assistance of Texas Equasearch have recovered a body at the residency," Dep. Thomas Gilliland said.

Pasadena police said a detective was sent to the scene to see if there is any connection to the case of Jesus Leal, who has been missing for 10 days, along with his pickup.

At last check, No connection had been proven and the body had not been identified.

"There's no identity on the body, no motive, and at this time we are still trying to excavate the body from the ground," HCSO Homicide Sgt. Greg Pinkins said.

Detectives confirm there was also a vehicle that had been chopped up on the property. At this point, they can't tell what make, model or color it was. They will be working to identify the vehicle as well as the victim.

At the end of the day, for folks who live on or around Mohawk Street, there were many more questions than answers.

"When we found out it was a dead body, word got out," a neighbor said. "Now I'm trying to find out what's going on; where it was, you know?"
