Ysidoro Rosales Motola, who's accused of inappropriate behavior with students, was taken into custody Friday evening, shortly after he checked into to a motel in the 22000 block of the Katy Freeway. During his arrest, Motola complained of chest pains so he was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital for observation.
Meanwhile, Robert Gasparelle, the principal at Sharpstown High School, is charged with failure to report allegations of child abuse to law enforcement. Two assistant deans, Jason Thomson and Silvio Leiva, were charged as well.
All three administrators were arrested and escorted from campus Thursday. It's a misdemeanor, but one that the district attorney is prosecuting.
"You don't only have a moral duty, you have a legal duty under the laws in the state of Texas that you must report any suspected child abuse," said Harris County DA Devon Anderson.
The child abuse allegations involve Motola and three male students. One incident allegedly occurred off campus last year and two at school, according to prosecutors. There is one charge of indecency with a child and two others of improper relationship with a student. In those cases, the students claim Motola touched them inappropriately.
Authorities had been searching for Motola for an entire day before he finally was taken into custody.
As for the principal, the issue is whether he reported the allegations to law enforcement. The DA says he did not and then there's HISD policy.
A district statement today says, "All of our district professionals are trained and obligated to report within 48 hours... all incidents in which its believed a child's physical or mental well being has been adversely affected by abuse or neglect by any person."
Gasparelo and the two administrators have been removed from the school until the charges against them are resolved, but there are people whose loyalty to the principal runs deep.
"Some parents are talking about taking their kids out, not because of what happened, but of him leaving," said parent Louis Moore.
The dean of student at Sharpstown, Bill Moore, is now the administrator in charge pending the outcome of this investigation.
