Missing 7-year-old girl found safe at southwest Houston apartment complex

HOUSTON

Meleiaha Ratliff, 7, was last seen at about 11pm last night at the apartment complex at 10522 Beechnut, where she lives. She was found just after noon today by police and reunited with her mother at the complex.

Meleiaha was reportedly with a neighbor overnight. According to that neighbor, the 7-year-old knocked on her door at around 11:45 pp, saying a man was trying to take her. The neighbor says Meleiaha told her she didn't want to go back out and that's why she didn't bring the girl back to her mother earlier.

Investigators say Meleiaha was reportedly out in the complex after her usual 9pm curfew, looking for friends to play with. Other neighbors say they saw her knocking on doors, and playing with some children. The last reported sighting of Meleiaha was at about 11pm. Her mother hadn't seen her since 5pm.

Friends and neighbors searched the property today. Houston police even asked for volunteers with Texas EquuSearch to join the effort earlier this morning.

No Amber Alert was issued while Meleiiaha was missing because there was no sign of foul play.
