Washington marina fire: 2 people hurt, boats damaged

DES MOINES, WA

The state Department of Ecology says several agencies responded to the blaze at Des Moines Marina reported shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday

An ecology department statement says firefighters removed several damaged boats from the water.

Media reports say up to a dozen boats were damaged or destroyed.

Assistant Chief Gordie Olson with South King Fire and Rescue tells KIRO-TV that a young couple was working on their boat when there suddenly there was flash fire that quickly spread to other vessels. They were hospitalized with burns on the upper parts of their bodies.

The ecology department says an oil containment boom has been put into place to contain any oil at the Puget Sound marina, south of Seattle.
