Their murders shocked the city. The tortured bodies of 16-year old Elizabeth Pena and 14-year old Jennifer Ertman were discovered near T.C. Jester Park back in 1993.
The girls were walking home when they confronted a group of gang members. They were raped and murdered near the park as part of a gang initiation.
The crime had a lasting impact on victims' rights. Relatives were given permission to witness executions, and the murder spurred anti-gang initiatives in Houston.
A vigil was held to honor their legacy at T.C. Jester Park by the memorial benches dedicated in their names.
