Walk, rally scheduled for fallen firefighters

HOUSTON

The Houston Muslim Community has partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to host the June 22 walk and rally in downtown Houston. It starts at 8:30am at Hermann Square Park by City Hall, 901 Bagby Street, and is expected to last until 10am.

All proceeds of the $7 participation fee will be given to the families of firefighters who died during the May 31 five-alarm fire at a motel in southwest Houston and during the April fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas.

Four Houston firefighters were killed in the motel blaze, and 10 first responders died in the West blast.

The event will feature several speakers, including Dr. Jim Bankston of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Rabbi Steve Gross of the Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism.

Donations and online registration can be made at http://houstonunited.eventbrite.com. To find out more about the event, please visit http://houston-united.org.
