Roger Clemens' two sons lead Memorial High baseball team into playoffs

HOUSTON

They are chips off the old block. Kacy and Kody Clemens are really a perfect blend of their dad and former Astros great, Roger. Kacy is the more outspoken one while Kody is reserved, but just as driven, in a very competitive baseball family.

Roger Clemens, and his seven Cy Young Awards, is most of proud of his K's -- his four sons, Koby, Kory, Kacy and Kody. The latter two are playing baseball together at Memorial High.

"Selfishly, Deb and I are happy because the young one, Kody, made the varsity so he is playing along side with Kacy, so it's one game to go to. But they are enjoying it. They are in high school getting after it," Roger told us.

"It's awesome, just to be with him and all the players, we play as a team. It's awesome to be right next to Kacy," said Kody, a sophomore shortstop at Memorial.

A very tight family, the Clemens family got even tighter during Roger's perjury trial, in which he was found not guilty of lying to Congress about his use of performance enhancing drugs.

The Clemens boys heard some stuff, too.

"Some chatter came from the opposing dugout, and I kind of just looked at them, next thing you know I am throwing 92 and I strike out the side to win the game," said Kacy. "It's just a fire that people light underneath us. The Clemens last name, we have a little, have a little grit and fire in us. You don't mess with the family and when you do, we come together even stronger."

Next year, the brothers won't play together as Kacy plans to follow in his dad's footsteps over at the University of Texas, maybe even the big leagues.

"Right now my first goal is to win state for this team, winning district for this team and pushing this kid (Kody) in the right direction so he can lead his team when I get out of here, but for after this year, I'm pretty much looking at Texas right now," Kacy said.

"I can't wait till I go watch him throw on the bump, play some first. I'll go there as many times as I can to watch him play," Kody said.

Memorial High begins their playoff run Friday against Chavez High and you know the Clemens family will be there to support Kacy and Kody.
