HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Harris County deputy is recovering after authorities said she was hit while on the scene of a separate crash where a woman was struck and killed, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

The scenes unfolded on Thursday night in north Houston near Old Bammel Road and Highway 249.

Authorities said a man in a Cadillac was driving near Highway 249 when he allegedly struck a woman, who police said was not in a crosswalk at the time. The driver reportedly fled the scene, but came back, HCSO said.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but later died from her injuries, HCSO said. Officials said the driver did not show any signs of intoxication and will not face charges.

Officials said HCSO deputies arrived to check out the scene and canvass the area. At one point, a woman in a Nissan Altima was trying to make a right turn when she hit a deputy in the crosswalk.

The deputy was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and is expected to be OK. HCSO said the driver was taken into custody for possession, but officials did not elaborate on what exactly it was.
