Altogether, over the next two days four to six inches of rain are likely. Some neighborhoods could have a little more if multiple storms track over the same spot.
There are two parts to this storm.
First, a warm front will lift northward, bringing thick fog to coastal areas. Scattered areas of light rain and drizzle will fall on much of southeast Texas by this morning. The rain will get heavier this afternoon as warm, moist air blows in from the Gulf of Mexico. Street flooding could cause traffic problems, especially this afternoon.
Widespread heavy rain is likely tonight. This could cause major traffic problems early tomorrow morning with water collecting on local roads and some smaller bayous beginning to rise.
Jeff Linder, meteorologist with Harris County Flood Control says, "Current thinking as of now is that most of the Harris County bayous and creeks will be able to handle three to four inches of rainfall, with rainfall above this magnitude starting to cause some concerns for the smaller watersheds of Halls Bayou and South Mayde Creek."
Harris County residents can monitor rainfall amounts and bayou levels on the HCFCD Flood Warning website.
Then, tomorrow, the cold front will move into southeast Texas. More thundershowers are likely and some of the storms could be severe. Gusty, damaging winds and large hail are likely. It's also possible a few isolated tornadoes could develop because of the low level wind shear.
